DIY Organic Skincare Recipe :: Gentle Glow Washing Grains
This all-natural DIY facial cleanser recipe from the green beauty book 100 Organic Skincare Recipes, written by our founder is super easy to make and will leave your skin fresh, healthy and glowing!
This mindful blend of four readily available natural skin care ingredients come together to make a soothing, moisturizing organic facial cleanser that gently exfoliates even the most sensitive of skin types.
Cleansing Grains are a natural soap-free facial cleanser made from of detoxifying clays and soothing organics that softly exfoliate, removing excess oil and dirt without stripping your skin's beneficial moisture.
Oats are widely regarded as an ideal ingredient for sensitive skin because oatmeal nourishes, moisturizes, + gently exfoliates the skin absorbing excess oil + dirt.
What you will need: dust mask, 32 oz canning jar with lid, spice jar, wide-hole sifter cap is optional but helps you dispense just the right amount.
Gentle Glow Washing Grains
- ¼ C Rose Petal Powder
- 3/4 C Oat Flour
- ½ C White Kaolin Cosmetic Clay
- ¼ C Powdered Milk (coconut, cow, or goat's milk)
Yields: 1¾ cups
1. To Make: Before you begin, find a protective dust mask, or tie a bandanna to cover your nose and mouth, to avoid breathing the powders.
Pro Tip: As an extra precaution, you may want to sift the ingredients together to remove any lumps and clumps. The oat flour and rose petal powder will often have some kernels or sharper edged pieces that are easily sifted out. This type of fine mesh strainer works well. Sift into a bowl, and then transfer into the canning jar to blend completely.
Once all of the ingredients are carefully placed into the canning jar (we like this Ball jar), close the lid tightly and shake well to blend to a uniform powder. Let stand for 5 minutes or so, as the dust settles in the jar.
2. To Store: Store this dry facial scrub in a spice jar with a sifter cap. Keep the lid tightly closed and store for up to a year.
3. To Use: To use, simply tap out a bit of the powder into the palm of your hand and mix with water added a tiny bit at a time until a paste forms. Then softly cleanse your face using small circular motions. Rinse with warm water and follow with toner and moisturizer.
